Join us February 20th for our monthly meeting!
The American River Democrats announce our February meeting, Wednesday, February 20th at Samurai Sushi, 12251 Folsom Blvd, Rancho Cordova, CA 95742. We gather starting at 6:30 pm for dining and socializing, and our meeting gets underway at 7 pm. Click here to view the meeting agenda.
Our featured speaker will be Kathy Day, member of the Sacramento County Mental Health Board. Kathy, who is also our club treasurer, will give us an overview of the function and scope of the County board.
Mental health services in Sacramento County, like most government services, are subject to a wide variety of rules and restrictions that flow from various pieces of State legislation, and each new proposed law must be examined for how it will impact existing service delivery. Likewise, the manner in which law enforcement and the criminal justice system deal with individuals with mental illness must be considered. The Mental Health Board commissioned an ad hoc committee to investigate alternative treatments for seriously mentally ill individuals, especially those with continual hospitalizations and incarcerations.
The findings of this committee have been prepared into a report, which is available for review at this link. Kathy will summarize those findings for us.
Remember that member dues for 2013 are now due and payable to the club. They are $25 per person. Please bring your dues to the meeting, or else you can mail a check to the club at:
